Policy Network

Policy for mental health reform

The CMHA Policy Network brings together the policy leaders, thinkers, and decision-makers from across our member organisations to collaborate on national mental health policy development. This includes a broad mix of participants; from CEOsand senior executives, to policy officers, advisors, and strategic leads within each state and territory peak.

The network exists to foster collective intelligence and sector-driven policy reform. Members work together to identify critical issues, analyse legislative and regulatory developments, and develop evidence-informed policy positions that reflect the needs and insights of the community-managed mental health sector.

The Policy Network:

  • Develops policy submissions and position statements
  • Identifies strategic opportunities for reform at state and federal levels
  • Strengthens our sector’s ability to influence public policy
  • Facilitates alignment between grassroots service delivery and government priorities
  • Centres the voices of lived experience and community in mental health reform

Through collaboration, consultation, and a shared commitment to human rights and systems change, the Policy Network helps shape a more inclusive and responsive mental health system — one that values prevention, community support, and psychosocial wellbeing alongside clinical care.
